GM- Genetically Modified- Genetic modification is any alteration of genetic material, as in agriculture, to make them capable of producing new substances or performing new functions

Gene- A portion of a DNA molecule that serves as the basic unit of heredity. Genes control the characteristics that an offspring will have by transmitting information in the sequence of nucleotides on short sections of DNA.

GMO- Genetically Modified Organism- An organsim whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques.

Biotechnology- the use of living organisms or other biological systems  to perform specific industrial or manufacturing processes.

Ag biotech- Agricultural Biotechnology- Modern agricultural biotechnology includes a range of tools that scientists employ to understand and manipulate the genetic make-up of organisms for use in the production or processing of agricultural products.

Biodiversity- Diversity among and within plant and animal species in an environment.

Input traits- traits up into the crop itself to help it survive or thrive.

Output traits- traits that “put out” value such as flavor, nutrients or freshness.
